We Lost Our Wonderful Colleague

When we at Health Affairs lost our wonderful colleague, Phil, in March 2011, we felt the void immediately — missing his intellect, penetrating analyses, wit and friendship.

As time has passed, and the immediate grief has softened, we feel the loss of Phil in many ways even more keenly. We reach for his insight on a paper or problem and he isn’t there. We are so glad to see this collection in his honor, as it is a fitting memento mori — a reminder of all he was, all we had, all we have lost, and all that is still with us.
